Who Is Gastric Banding Suitable For?

Weight loss surgery such as a lap band assists those suffering from the medical, physical, and psychosocial effects of obesity. Associated problems often include:

  • Certain Types of Cancer
  • Joint Degeneration
  • Social Isolation
  • Depression

To be eligible for gastric banding surgery at WeightLoss Solutions Australia, we require patients to meet the following clinical criteria (exceptions may apply):

  • You must be at least 17 years of age, and no older than 75 years of age*
  • You must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of at least 30 and above*
  • You have a history of failed weight loss attempts with diet and exercise
  • You are willing to access meaningful support from the clinical team at WLSA
  • Your are willing to adhere to medical, dietary, and psychological advice
  • You are assessed psychologically as being a good candidate for weight loss surgery. 

*Please note that these criteria are guidelines established in the interest of the patient; however, in circumstances that warrant a review of age and BMI limitations, WLSA reserves the right to assess each patient on an individual basis and may in certain circumstances approve a patient who falls outside of these clinical criteria for weight loss surgery.
