Lifestyle Changes after Gastric Sleeve Surgery

One of the main issues patients are interested in about Gastric Sleeve surgery is the impact on diet. This is discussed in detail separately but it is important to consider what other factors in your life will require change or management after surgery.

Get Active

One of the key areas for change is exercise, and while it is possible to acheive great weight loss with the Gastric Sleeve without changing your exercise habits, the results obtained by incorporating some movement into your day have a much higher benefit in terms of greater weight loss and improved health and well being.

Look for opportunities to incorporate small amounts of exercise throughout the day, even activities such as taking the stairs or going for a lunch time stroll can have a massive impact on weight loss. Also consider pairing up with others seeking weight loss to form a walking group or join one in your area. Consider some activities with the kids or other family and friends such as bike riding or horse riding on weekends, so it doesn't really feel like exercise.

We also have an exercise physiologist that we work with regularly so if you'd like to develop an individual program suitable to your lifestyle incorporating activities which you would prefer to do, please contact us on 1300 934 448 and we can arrange an appointment.

Your Support Network

We sometimes find that patients are lacking support in their home and social circle after weight loss surgery. For this reason, we've developed a number of initiatives for patients to join in with other patients and form friendships with those that share their excitement and experiences with weight loss surgery. We hold monthly coffee groups and dinners with customised small portion menus, as well as in-room support groups and a Facebook page which is monitored and interacted with regularly for questions and comments.

Consider also spending some time with our psychologist if you're feeling overwhelmed or having difficulty coping with the people in your lives and of course our patient relations and patient liaison staff are always happy to have a chat about any concerns you're having.
