Training of Indian Doctors
Dear Dr Layani,I would like to compliment you and your team for the excellence in organising our visit to your clinic. I would like to put it on record that the program was very educative and the technical modifications perfected by you have been amazing and so simple that one feels like kicking himself for not having thought about it earlier. Starting from patient positioning to end of the procedure and post op period, the entire complex of events look like a well choreographed performance. That of course is a testimony to your mastery over the procedure and I am happy that I have had the opportunity to visit your clinic and see you in action. I should admit that I have been impressed by your easy approachability and camaraderie, something rare in big time surgeons. It has been a wonderful stay on the Gold Coast and I have been immensely benefited by the visit to your clinic. Apart from discussions with you in your consultation office, the brief discussion with the nutritionist and the psychologist also have been greatly enriching. I am talking to our dieticians and trying to emulate some of your clinic's practices. I am given to understand that all your pre-op and post-op instructions, as well the pictorial charts in the dietician's room showing caloric/ carb values of various food items/ drinks are available in your office in electronic forms. May I request you to kindly ask your office to email me the relevant files to enable me to set up a comprehensive bariatric surgery unit. Looking forward to meeting you when you visit Delhi. With best regards to Mrs Layani and to you. Dr V Baskaran
Dear Mr Krishnamoorthy,
It’s been a couple of days since my return from Australia from John Flynn Private Hospital, Gold Coast where I had gone for an observational fellowship from Dr Laurent Layani, Chief of Bariatric Surgery John Flynn. First of all I would like to express that my learning experience at John Flynn was excellent. We had an excellent learning experience from Dr Layani who is a marvelous bariatric surgeon, he left no stone unturned in sharing his bariatric experience with me & Dr Hemant Vadiar from Mumbai. We saw a lot of Lap Band cases, Gastric Sleeves, a couple of Lap Hernias, Lap Radical Gastrectomy, etc. With this we spend hours in Dr Laurent’s Obesity clinic with Warren Artz (Psychologist), Ms Swift (Dietician), Dr Candice Silverman (Surgical Fellow with Dr Layani). A couple of Band revision cases were done, plus Dr Layani showed us the best revision videos which he had in his video Library. He is a very kind hearted person & even went ahead to my utter surprise & gifted me a series of DVDs on Lap Band. Thank You Dr Laurent.
My sincere thanks also to the J&J team in Australia for their whole hearted efforts to make us more efficient in Bariatric Surgery Techniques. I was lucky enough to Operate one international patient from U.S.A on 9.10.2009 after my Australia visit at Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana as per the instructions by Dr Laurent Layani in different positioning of patient & left trocar camera insertion, which I learnt from him. To my surprise I could perform the Bariatric Procedure (LSG) in half time what I did before & more efficiently.
Kind Regards,
Dr Ashish Ahuja, Consultant Lap & Bariatric Surgeon, Assistant Professor, Dept of Surgery, Dayanand Medical College &Hospital, Ludhiana(Punjab) India.
